After reading the book “How Democracies Die” I would agree it is not the majority that destroys a democracy … it is the noisy minority that is willing to break any rule it sees as a negative and fight dirty. The book outlines many precursors that have appeared in democratic governments that colapsed. The US has demonstrated just about every indicator. Breaking norms and breaking laws without direct consequences.

My own personal opinion is the other side (the Left) are on the Left because they typically exhibit a bit more empathy. This higher level of empathy keeps them from returning “fire with fire” and fighting back with any means necessary. So the Left is handicapped in a dirty fight. Sorry Michelle “Going high when they go low” sometimes does not work.

Do we have any remaining firewalls? Maybe the free press in its current state … but will it hold? Will it hold long enough until the courts or congress can “throw a monkey wrench” into these attempts to end democracy? And if there are no “monkey wrenches” … we are certainly doomed.

It does seem we keep falling deeper into the abyss … but as I have said before “It is not the fall that kills you it is the sudden stop at the bottom … so buckle up”.

Or maybe we are attached to a bungee cord … either way it will be very scary.
