Ahhh … In a YouTube video narrated by Julia Roberts there is a line that says:

“I have fed species greater than you and I have starved species greater than you. I am Mother Nature, you need me, but I don’t need you”.

As humans we can claim we don’t need Mother Nature or think we can manipulate her into what we want but it will be the children and grand children of the current Earth inhabitants that will get to see how that works out.
