I deleted my Facebook account sometime ago.
All of your observations are correct but people I talk to simply don't care even if they are politically progressive and left leaning. But recently some advertisers are pushing back. I don't hold out much hope that it will really change their behavior. I think it will take some legal regulations to solve the problem.
But sadly the public has the control now. Just delete your account and pick up the phone to talk to the people you care about. Share your photos via text messages and email. There are even some online photo albums that are free.
I personally believe that many social media platforms are pretty evil. I was once a Certified Ethical Hacker and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and if you really drill into what Facebook knows about their subscribers it is very scary.
Remember ... your account is Facebook's product they sell to their advertisers. You are not their customer.
There is a way to download what Facebook knows about you.

If you have used Facebook for a while this will be a very scary experience.
Nothing like a little predatory capitalism to make your life better. Better????? Just ask Zuckerberg ... he will tell you Yes Better ... well at least his bank account says better.
