I think you are correct that the “Christians” do seem to think 4–5 is their “savior”. Has he not been declared, by some, as “sent by God”?

But the why is maybe much deeper in various cognitive disorders that play into the narrative of fascist leaders and fascist rhetoric.

I have read recently a few books that have helped me better understand why somebody would follow 4–5.

• The Skeptics Guide to the Universe outlines lots of cognitive disorders that help explain lots of behavior and how science can be ignored. It is not political but a discussion of how to prover or disprove your hypothesis and the mental pitfalls that can occur.
• How Democracies Die recalls lots of history of how various strongmen have come to power.
• How Fascism Works is a deeper dive into the specific behaviors that are regarded as tenets of fascism and how they contribute to the rise of power. This was enlightening because there are lots of behaviors that seem somewhat benign but are part of the overall fascist message.

Overall it is a bit of a scary journey to watch because so many people seem to want to follow the “Pied Piper”. And our current POTUS is just a classic example of what has happened in much of recorded history everywhere in the world.

I wrote an essay here asking if maybe the Earth was part of a great experiment by a “Higher Power” titled The Earth — Is it an Experiment? This will likely “freak out” the Christians … but the science oriented readers might like it.
