Not long ago I read “How Democracies Die” by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt (Ziblatt referenced in this article). It talks about some of the details in this article as well as some others. It gives a historical context of how other democracies have failed.

It was a sobering read and we are on a path that have caused others democracies fail. But there are some differences.

I also read “How Fascism Works” by Jason Stanley. This book describes the “mechanics” of fascist leaders. It too was sobering. While not about the GOP it described the behavior of successful fascist transitions that are similar to GOP behavior over the last decade or more. Also the current POTUS also exhibits much of what is described in this book.

I could see how America ends … but Mother Nature will also have substantial impact on how the world will change over the next few decades and beyond. I am confident the political will to fix climate change will never happen.
