Thank you Umair. You have helped crystallize my feelings more into words. I have always been a bit of an activist but over the last few years I am becoming more engaged, in part, due to your essays here.

I write in local media, I try to get people out to vote, and I talk (nicely) to those that will listen. The good news is my town is progressive but the bad news is my state is not.

I have recognized for a while that Fascism has been on the rise and that a very large segment of the population thinks “it can’t happen here”. Sorry, but it is here and your children and grand children will pay the price in many ways. They will end up paying the price if they are poor or eventually if they are rich. Can we stop it? Like Umair, I am not so sure. BUT I am going to try to do my part. As an “old guy” (late 60’s) I hope to have enough time to influence some changes but either way it won’t make as much impact on me as it will on those younger than me.
