The current state of AI is more like Artificial Pavlov’s Dog. It will get better but the ethical issues are the biggest problem.

The largest medium term issue will be how companies want to use AI to remove (as the accountants would say) the single biggest repeating cost in the process … humans.

If Uber has their way they will eliminate drivers. Other industries have similar goals but maybe they don’t promote them as openly.

This won’t be creating just unemployment but large classes of humans that are just irrelevant because they won’t be able to participate in capitalism to the degree large corporations desire. I don’t believe, at least in the medium term, we will work hard to find other things for these displaced employees to do.

I wrote a response to another story about AI you can read hear. There is also a YouTube clip to a “Simulated” news conference of a defense contractor about their new autonomous drone swarm weapon technology. What could possibly go wrong with that.

Enjoy.
