Umair,

Thanks for the hope and the plan to survive the unthinkable.

But I am going to trust that George, Alexander, Benjamin, Thomas, James, et al. were as smart as they have appeared for the first two centuries. Even if they did make a few small errors maybe they created something truly unique and durable. Something that can survive the unthinkable. Something that can survive where many other democracies have failed.

As Thomas Jefferson said … “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants”.

I am trusting what we are currently seeing in the impeachment hearings is the refreshing of our tree of liberty. We certainly have seen some extraordinary patriots testify and notably maybe the emergence of some of the strongest women many of us have ever seen. And maybe this feminine energy can provide something different than many of us have have ever seen.

The current political state in the US is not just a phenomenon of the last 3 years. We probably could have used some refreshing of our tree of liberty a few decades ago.

But … things sometimes need to get very bad before they can get better. Bad politically. Bad with predatory capitalism. Bad with climate change.

But … things can get better as our tree of liberty gets refreshed. Things can get better if we vote. Things can get better … if we all are a little patriotic.

Thank you to the patriots willing to sacrifice for the good of all of us. Thank you to the authors of our Constitution giving these patriots a path to use their courage.

I will prepare for the worst yet hope for the best.
