Yes you can always have unintended consequences but maybe we will be lucky.

We can hope those “not so enlightened” beings that might be hungry or mean would be acting like humans on planet earth. If so they will kill themselves off on their own planet either directly or indirectly by destroying their own habitat. Low Risk. Most will be dead before they figure out intergalactic travel.

If we encounter some “enlightened” beings maybe they will have figured out that empathy and compassion can lead to the continuation of their own species and give us a few tips for ours. Possible. Because their species may live long enough to gain sufficient knowledge and wisdom to figure out intergalactic travel. And humans will be better off for the encounter.

Or when these aliens encounter Earth they will tell Mother Nature … “You better bail out now before these totally crazy wack-job humans wreck everything on the planet like we saw on Nebula Alpha blah blah blah”. Most likely scenario.
