You might argue Umair’s essays can sometimes invoke anger but you must admit America is certainly pretty “messed up” in many respects.
The lack of gun control certainly is a great example. We are willing to sacrifice innocent people to maintain a false idea that the 2nd Amendment simply won’t allow us make any changes because the slippery slope is an all or nothing proposition … which is obviously not true.
I think gun control may fall into the psychological condition called Cognitive Dissonance where a human holds two conflicting ideas and they must discard one to relive the mental discomfort. Maybe the public does not totally accept the idea that all gun control is bad but they do accept the fact their elected representatives can sacrifice citizens to avoid gun control for their own benefit.
I think some of this essay is correct that somehow we do “enjoy” or maybe we are addicted to violence because so many of our “mental flaws” end up with violent concequences.
