Here are a few Zen like thoughts that might help you navigate life.

My study of martial arts, leadership, and meditation has lead me to this accumulation of little Zen Tidbits. Different ones resonate at different times in my daily travels through life. You don’t have to master them all or even any of them … but if you do work on these ideas, or even your own list, you will find life to be less of a struggle during your journey.

Life can be much like trying to carry a cup of hot coffee filled to the rim while you walk across a room. The more you try to watch the coffee slosh and compensate for the slosh you are always just a little off. You just can’t react quick enough. You also won’t be able to watch where you are walking and that will likely make things even worse. If you relax and quit trying to anticipate and compensate for every slosh you will get burned less.

In life sometimes things are counterintuitive in a similar way. Don’t spend so much time watching the sloshes and spend more time following these Zen Tidbits.

Some may say these are not all technically part of any formal Zen philosophy and I suppose that could be true but certainly they paraphrase many Zen teachings.

  • Give without regard to receiving
  • Show your strength through compassion
  • Seek not to save…
